Anthony McGivery Bio:
Anthony McGivery was born on December 26, 1981, in Alansdale, South Carolina. At the age of 15
he was found guilty of multiple charges, not including murder, and sentenced to 93 years without the
chance of parole (due to the abolishment of parole in VA). Despite many moments of hopelessness,
Anthony continued to utilize all his resources along with creating some of his own. As a result of
these efforts over the past 27 years, Mr. McGivery has compiled an impeccable resume consisting of
consistent infraction free status resulting in housing in the lowest level facility due to his sentence,
ongoing employment for over 20 yrs, six completed programs, seven completed educational courses
highlighted by obtaining his GED and graduating from UVA Darden School of Business (above pic)
along with developing his business plan for his own upscale salad restaurant, The Garden of Eden,
that would include mentoring opportunities. As of July 2020, juvenile bills, SB103 and HB35, were
approved by the General Assembly resulting in Anthony becoming eligible for parole. Despite his
above portfolio, he has been denied parole twice and is awaiting his answer for his latest interview
held on August 8, 2024. The parole board has provided generic denial reasons, severity of crime and
haven’t served enough time, for examples while Mr. McGivery’s behavior and development over the
past 27 years show cause for parole approval. Because of these numerous reasons, Bending the
Bars has elected Mr. Anthony McGivery to be October’s Spotlight for Approval candidate. We are
asking for all supporters of Second Chances to email the parole board at vpbmail@vpb.virginia.gov
and endorse the approval of Anthony’s parole.
